Many years ago we were introduced to the fact that the Universe was expanding. Then more recently it was discovered that the expansion was not slowing down, as had been previously surmised, but was in fact accelerating.
So what is the universe? It is easy to get caught up in thinking of the universe as the the night sky — the great “out there.” Yet it encompasses everything, down to the smallest atoms which make up even us. In a very real sense we exist quite literally in the universe. It moves through us. We are inextricably a part of it, and so is the Earth.
If the “universe” is expanding then the planet we live on is doing the same thing. The following video provides an interesting illustration of that. It kind of exposes the theory of “continental drift” – of Pangea – for the folly that it is.

The next video, at ten minutes total length, is a more in depth version of the one above. It notes that core samples taken from the ocean floors show them to be no older than 70 million years, at the oldest parts.
It drove me to ask: If the universe is expanding, at an increasing rate, then why would time not be doing the same thing? Are they not intertwined?
