A friend accompanied me to Home Depot a number of years ago. As we exited the store the alarm went off. I kept walking while my friend stopped in panic, waiting for the SWAT team to come strip-search him.
“Why didn’t you stop?” he asked me when he got to the truck.
“Did you steal anything?” I asked.
“No!”
“Neither did I, and I have no reason to waste time defending myself for something I didn’t do. You must have a guilty conscience.”
He is probably still thinking on that.
